Elevating Standards with the IPSB

Our alliance with the International Protective Security Board (IPSB) is a testament to our dedication to excellence in the protective security domain. The IPSB, with its illustrious history as a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization, has been instrumental in shaping the future of security across varied sectors. This synergy is not just transactional but rooted in a shared vision and commitment.

The realm of protective security is vast, encompassing not just celebrities or high-net-worth individuals but also vital sectors like government protection and diplomatic security services. Recognizing the intricate challenges each of these sectors poses, MPS Security and Protection has cultivated an expansive repertoire of services. Our commitment to enterprise security ensures that high-value assets remain safeguarded around the clock. Meanwhile, our expertise in diplomatic security underscores the importance we place on securing not just individuals but the very ideals they represent.

The collaboration with IPSB is emblematic of our shared mission: to usher in an era where security isn’t just a service, but an unyielding commitment to safeguarding people, principles, and assets. With the IPSB’s ethos of professionalization and our expansive range of executive protection services, together we pave the way for a future where safety and peace of mind are guaranteed.

A Charitable Security Endeavor

In the ever-evolving landscape of protective security, fostering growth and development requires more than expertise—it requires investment. But when one donates to the IPSB, it transcends the confines of a mere financial transaction. Every contribution made to the IPSB is a philanthropic step towards ensuring a safer, more secure tomorrow. By making these contributions tax-deductible, the IPSB not only offers a tangible benefit to donors but reinforces the magnanimity of the cause—building a world where security standards are not just met but exceeded.

Education Meets Expertise – The Close Protection and Security Journal

Knowledge is the lifeblood of any industry, and in the world of protective security, it’s the difference between complacency and excellence. The IPSB’s decision to launch an academically-inclined journal heralds a new era, marking a determined stride towards bridging the existing knowledge chasm. This bi-annual publication isn’t just another journal; it’s a platform where theory meets practice, and classroom insights meld with on-ground realities. For professionals, especially those in uniform security, this journal will serve as both a beacon and a handbook, guiding them towards best practices and innovative solutions.

Call for Knowledge Sharing

The essence of growth lies in collaboration, and the Close Protection and Security Journal stands as a testament to this truth. Encompassing a plethora of topics, from the intricacies of close protection to the vast expanse of emerging technologies and intelligence analysis, this journal beckons experts from various domains to share their insights. At MPS Security and Protection, we view this not just as a call for submissions but as a clarion call for collective evolution. We urge every professional with a story to tell, a lesson to share, or a vision to elucidate, to seize this golden chance. Let’s collectively ensure that our reservoir of knowledge, curated under the astute guidance of Dr. Treston Wheat, is both vast and deep.

Forging the Future of Security

As we stand on the cusp of a future where the importance of security has never been more pronounced, MPS Security and Protection, in concert with the IPSB, is committed to leading the charge. Our shared vision is more than a mere blueprint; it’s a vow—an unwavering pledge to prioritize excellence, foster awareness, and champion dedication in every endeavor. We don’t merely aim to narrate the future of protective security; with passion and perseverance, we are sculpting it. Together, our mission transcends boundaries, shaping a world where safety isn’t just assured—it’s guaranteed.

MPS Security and Protection is proud to announce that our President, Michael Julian, has been featured in a recent article on EP Wired. In the article, titled “Ethics and Standards in EP,” Julian discusses the importance of ethical conduct and accountability in the executive protection industry.

Julian highlights that the executive protection industry is responsible for protecting high-profile individuals who may be at risk of physical harm or other dangers. As such, the industry requires individuals with strong ethics and principles to protect their clients professionally and responsibly. Julian stresses that agents must maintain the highest levels of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion in this highly sensitive and confidential environment.

The article cites two cases where a lack of ethics and integrity negatively affected the executive protection industry. The first example is the case of Blackwater Worldwide, where agents violated several ethical and legal standards during their operations in Baghdad, Iraq. The second example is the case of TigerSwan, where the company engaged in unethical and potentially illegal practices during its operations in North Dakota.

Julian emphasizes the importance of standards in the executive protection industry. Standards provide a framework for ensuring that agents operate within the law and uphold the highest ethical and professional standards. They establish a common language and understanding of what is expected of agents and provide a basis for training, certification, and accreditation programs.

Without standards, the executive protection industry is susceptible to abuse and unethical behavior, which can have severe consequences for the safety and well-being of clients and the industry’s reputation. Standards help to establish clear expectations for behavior and conduct and provide a mechanism for holding agents and firms accountable for their actions.

Julian stresses that ethics and standards are crucial to the executive protection industry. Agents must possess solid ethical principles and adhere to high integrity, confidentiality, and discretion standards to protect their clients professionally and responsibly. The industry must continue to develop and adopt standards that reflect best practices and the highest ethical and professional standards to ensure that agents and firms are held accountable for their actions.

In the attached video, Michael Julian, the founder of the A.L.I.V.E. (Assess, Leave, Impede, Violence, and Expose) program, is being interviewed by a Fox News host about the recent mass shootings and how people can protect themselves in such situations. The A.L.I.V.E. program is a comprehensive active shooter response training that teaches individuals how to respond in real-life active shooter incidents.

During the interview, Julian emphasizes the importance of assessing the situation and making informed decisions in the event of an active shooter. The first step of the A.L.I.V.E. program is to assess the situation, which involves quickly evaluating the environment and determining the best course of action.

The next step is to leave the area, if possible. Julian stresses the importance of getting as far away from the shooter as possible, as quickly as possible. If leaving the area is not possible, individuals should look for ways to impede the shooter, such as barricading doors or blocking entryways.

Are you prepared for an active shooter incident? Michael Julian, the founder of A.L.I.V.E., believes that preparation is critical to survival. A.L.I.V.E. stands for Assess, Leave, Impede, Violence, and Expose, a philosophy he has been teaching throughout the United States since 2014.

Recently, Michael Julian was featured on KCAL CBS local news, discussing the mass shooting in Monterey Park and the importance of being prepared for such a tragic event. He shared with the audience how his A.L.I.V.E. philosophy can help individuals and organizations to increase their chances of survival in an active shooter situation.

Here are some of the Monterey Park details given by Brandon Tsay

On Saturday night, as the Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio was winding down, with less than 30 minutes until closing, Brandon Tsay, the third-generation operator of the family-run dance hall in Alhambra, was in the office off the lobby, watching the ballroom when he heard the front doors swing closed and a strange clang that sounded like metallic objects hitting each other. He turned around to see a semiautomatic assault pistol pointed at him.

“He was looking at me and looking around, not hiding that he was trying to do harm. His eyes were menacing,” recalled Mr. Tsay, who struggled with the gunman and eventually disarmed him, saving countless lives and averting another tragedy. It was an act that officials roundly praised as heroic. The gunman, who authorities identified as Huu Can Tran, 72, was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot in a van about 30 miles away, according to law enforcement officials.

Mr. Tsay said the weapon the gunman was carrying signaled he intended to inflict maximum damage. “How it was built and customized, I knew it wasn’t for robbing money,” he said. “From his body language, his facial expression, his eyes, he was looking for people.”

Sheriff Robert Luna of Los Angeles County said in a news briefing Sunday afternoon that “two community members” had disarmed the gunman at the Alhambra ballroom. “This could have been much worse,” he said. But Mr. Tsay and his family, who reviewed the security camera footage from the lobby of the ballroom, said it was he alone who fought the gunman over control of the weapon and wrested it from him.

“It was just my son. He could have died,” said his father, Tom Tsay, who said he was proud of his son for the bravery he showed. “He’s lucky, someone was watching over him.” His older sister, Brenda, who currently runs the business, said the video showed a prolonged, fierce struggle between the two men all over the lobby.

His older sister, Brenda, who currently runs the business, said the video footage from the lobby showed a prolonged and intense struggle between the two men. According to her, the gunman was determined to regain control of the weapon.

Brandon, a computer coder who occasionally works at the family’s ballroom, said he was facing the gunman at around 10:35 p.m. Saturday, although he did not recognize him. Despite never having seen a real gun before, he could tell that it was a deadly weapon. “My heart sank, I knew I was going to die,” he said.

Without hesitation, Brandon lunged and grabbed the weapon by its barrel, starting a struggle with the gunman for control of it. “It was a primal instinct,” he said. “I don’t know what came over me.” The fight lasted for about a minute and a half, and both men were similarly matched in strength, according to Mr. Tsay. He saw an opportunity when the gunman briefly looked down at the weapon, and he managed to pry the pistol away from him. He pointed the weapon back at the gunman and shouted, “Go, get the hell out of here,” as he recalls.

After assisting the police with their investigation throughout the night, Brandon felt deeply affected by the events of that evening and had not yet been able to fully process them. He felt particularly heartbroken for the community of Monterey Park and the surrounding areas, where his family and their ballroom had been a beloved haven for over three decades.

MURRIETA, CA – Security Industry Expert Michael Julian of MPS Security, based out of southern Calif., will conduct his renowned A.L.I.V.E. active shooter survival training in Costa Mesa, Calif. on Tuesday, September 11, at 5 p.m.
With an increasing amount of active shooter tragedies in the United States, it is crucial to know what to do if ever found in a situation like this.

Michael is presenting to ACG corporate leaders, who are past, present and future “award winners” for exceptional growth, corporate citizenship, and more in the corporate arena. They’re on the C-suite level and occupy CEO, COO, CFO, and board member positions.

Active shooter training is something that’s becoming as normal as an earthquake or fire drill training,” said Michael Julian, security expert at MPS Security. “This year alone there have been nearly 300 active shooter situations in our country and the number is only continuing to grow. Did you know that there are life altering steps you can take within the first 10 seconds of an active shooter that can keep you alive? Knowing what to do in this situation can save lives.”

Michael is a national instructor, a recognized expert in the security industry and author of a newly released book called 10 Minutes to Live in  A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training, where he shares how essential the appropriate actions taken in the first 10 minutes of an active shooter event can be for survival.

The A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training is a 2-hour workshop designed to educate, inform and prepare individuals who may come in contact with an active shooter. With increasing public violence employees and civilians are being vigilant about potential threats that they may come in contact with.

According to the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, nearly two million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence each year. Many additional cases are never reported. Between disgruntled employees, hateful defiance and unstable individuals, violence continues to be an ongoing theme in the media. While the arguments of increased gun control laws and Second Amendment rights are top of mind for Americans, being proactive and prepared is necessary.

The September 11th ACG A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter Survival Training will be held at the Irvine Spectrum
(200 Spectrum Center Dr., #300, Irvine, CA 92618).

MURRIETA, CA – For the previous three years, MPS Security a national, Murrieta-based security agency has been responsible for the management of security for the Get Shamrocked Irish Music Festival. This two-day festival of Celtic culture includes music, dancing and food. Now acclaimed as the premier Celtic music festival on the West Coast, this event boasts an annual attendance of over 10,000 spectators,  In Safe Shamrocked Festival making security a critical step in the planning process.

One of the significant safety planning steps involved in prepping for the Get Safe Shamrocked Festival is that alcohol is involved in the guest experience, which requires additional monitoring to prevent excessive intoxication. Similar events host beer garden areas, which are erected and strictly monitored so that only guests entering with government issued ID’s can partake. Get Shamrocked differs in that all guests require an appropriate ID, as mandated by the California Alcoholic Beverage Control, classifying the entire venue area as a beer garden; this calls for security to control and monitor event access.  In the past, proper monitoring of attendees and planning has prevented any type of physical confrontations.

We have established a strong relationship here with the Murrieta Chamber and the owners of the Shamrock Irish Pub & Eatery. They are comfortable with the services MPS Security provides, the level of expertise we bring and our customer service philosophy,” shares Dennis Varhall, Senior Security Manager for MPS Security. “All security questions are referred to us with 100% confidence in the decisions our team makes during the event.”

Extra precautions are implemented for the Get Shamrocked event, such as equipment for hydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Due to hot weather conditions, limited shaded areas and alcohol consumption, health and safety is critical. “Last year alone, MPS Security responded to eight cases of heat exhaustion and one heat stroke at the event,” continues Varhall. “Several of our officers have Combat Casualty Control certifications and a med bag is always on the premises.”

Many team members of MPS Security have military and law enforcement backgrounds. They are well trained to be vigilant, observant and possess situational awareness.  In addition to being prepared to deal with alcohol consumption and a younger demographic, management of the VIP section is another area requiring security monitoring. Being that this is an area where bands take breaks, concern for keeping this area safe is important to assure the talent feels well protected.

MPS Security is also the primary protection during cash pick up and money movement throughout the site. The entire venue encompasses 34 acres, which have to be traveled when picking up money from the many purchasing areas around the park. In the past, MPS Security has received praise on the level of security that was provided for the protection of the event money collectors. As security industry experts, MPS Security offers a robust portfolio of security services.

With nearly 50 years in the security industry, MPS Security is a full service security firm responsible for the safety at Inland Empire Spartan and Tough Mudder races; large concert venues at casinos and wineries; contracted facilities; museums; country clubs; speedways and the Scottish Highland Games with 35,000 in attendance daily.

Most active shooter events end in 10 minutes or less. Training session provides lessons in preparedness

Murrieta, CA – Murrieta businesses and residents are invited to sign up for a 2-hour Active Shooter Survival Skills workshop designed to educate, inform and prepare individuals who might come in contact with an active shooter. With increasing public violence, including the recent Orlando and San
Bernardino shootings, employees and civilians are being vigilant about potential violence that
they may come in contact with. According to the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, nearly 2 million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence each year. Many additional cases are never reported.

Between disgruntled employees, hateful defiance and unstable individuals, violence continues to be an on-going theme in the media. While the arguments of increased gun control laws and second amendment rights are top of mind for Americans, being proactive and prepared is necessary.

“No one can predict when a public shooting might occur. Most active shooter events end in 10 minutes or less. Unfortunately, the average response time for law enforcement is 12 minutes,” shares, Michael Julian, CEO of MPS Security, a national security company offering workplace safety trainings, private investigation, body guard and security services. “We are committed to providing an educational program that teaches the skills necessary for survival in the event of a rogue shooter.”

The Active shooter survival skills training will include information on workplace violence, active shooter case studies, survival skills, active shooter preparedness.

The course will be taught by Michael Julian, CPI, PPS, CSP, a recognized expert in security, executive protection and risk mitigation/management.

Attendees will receive a practical understanding of how the information taught relates to them and how it
can be used where they work every day.
